HOW LATENT SOFTWARE WORKS
Tired of completing a stolen-device report and entering the serial number into NCIC only to hope you can find it at a pawn shop or on the possession of an arrested person? The FBI estimates that only 3% of stolen laptops are ever recovered. Improve your chances with Latent software.
Each Wi-Fi Device Has a Global Unique Identifier
This global unique identifier is called a media access controller (MAC) address. It’s like a device’s digital fingerprint that is transmitted whenever the device is searching or on a network.
MAC Address Is Reported and Added to Latent’s Cloud Database
Victims provide MAC address to law enforcement who then add it to the Latent cloud database. MAC addresses can be found on retail packaging, a recently used wireless access point, business I.T., and more.
Device Transmits Anytime It Searches or Connects to Wi-Fi
Stolen devices can transmit the MAC Address up to 300 feet away (even through walls). Devices can include laptops, tablets, mobile phones, televisions, and gaming systems.
Automatically Analyzes Wi-Fi Networks Securely
Latent software is installed on existing equipment, such as squad car laptops, allowing for passive scanning of stolen devices during routine patrolling. With Latent’s cloud database, law enforcement can detect a device across any participating jurisdictions.
Get Customized Alerts When a Device is Detected
Once detected, the officer or law enforcement staff can receive a text or email alert. They then have the option to use the Latent software mapping and/or the signal-strength graphing features to locate the device.
HOW LATENT SOFTWARE COMPARES
Latent is the only product designed for law enforcement by law enforcement. All other products in the field of device recovery are focused on the consumer. These products have many disadvantages such as requiring specially configured software on the stolen device and the need to be actively connected to the internet. Because Latent leverages the underlying wireless networking standard, it is able to identify any device that is equipped with Wi-Fi. In addition, Latent is able to identify and locate devices regardless of an internet connection. As long as the device is powered on, and the Wi-Fi capability is enabled, you can locate it.
